This is a beautifully hand-bound reprinting of the first book of laws of the Republic of Texas. It also includes the Texas Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the Republic (click here to read more about this text.)
Each copy in this limited is artisan bound in some very special materials...Once the materials are gone, so is the opportunity to purchase this handsome volume...
The spine is a traditional flat-backed form featuring four raised bands. It is covered in a buttery golden brown buckskin, tanned in Spain over fifty years ago. Our binder was fortunate to procure a small quantity of this beautifully patinated leather. Craftsman that he is, he has skillfully added small splits at the corners to simulate great age. The effect is a book that looks genuinely old resting on your shelf.
The boards and pastedowns are covered in an elegant marbled paper made by nationally known artisan Galen Berry in his Oklahoma studio. Marbled papers have been used in bookbinding since the sixteenth century. Their production is practiced today by but a handful of fine craftsmen around the world. (PLEASE NOTE: Because the marbled papers we use are hand-crafted, not all colors are available at any given time. The papers used to bind your copy may not be those shown in the photos below. If you have any questions about paper selection, please call Mark at (361) 727-1093.)
The terminal flyleaves are in a contrasting marbled paper, an age-old form known as stone bull's-eye. The overhangs have been left intact to form flaps over the subsequent fly leaves.
The head and foot of the spine are protected by endbands of steer hide.
Finally, the spine title is custom-screened, crafted of calf leather. It is fendered in form, emulating a style practiced in the early 19th century.
Each copy is one-of-a-kind in its material and craftsmanship. It is ready to adorn your office, and these specially bound copies are offered on a first come, first served basis. Once the vintage leather is gone, so will be the opportunity to purchase a special copy of this text. Don't wait or they may be gone. |
