About The Book

This is our best selling book, Texas Oil and Gas Since 1543, treated to a very special custom, hand-made binding in our new in-house bindery. (click here to read more about this text.)

This type of binding is traditionally called "quarter leather," although nearly half the binding is actually leather. (Who are we to question tradition?)

The leather itself is a velvety black morocco. Morocco is a special type of goat hide, originating in North Africa. It has been prized for its fine grain by aficionados of fine binding for nearly 300 years.

The spine is also of traditional form, featuring four raised bands. The boards are covered in a bold and elegant traditionally marbled paper made by nationally know artisan Galen Berry in his Oklahoma studio. Marbled papers have been used in bookbinding since the 16th century. Their production is practiced today by only a handful of fine craftsmen around the world.

The top, bottom and fore-edges have been hand-spattered to complement the board papers.

The endbands, which are there to lend strength as well as a distinctive contrast, are of forest green calf leather set against padded spine ends.

Open the covers and you will find the pastedowns are scenes from our limited edition print, Tripping Pipe - Corsicana
, laminated in gold vellum. The fly leaves are a sand colored laid cotton rag stock. Holding it all together are hinges of dark brown mulberry paper, waxed and pasted, making it pliable, yet exceptionally strong.

Finally, there is the spine title, made of calf leather and custom screened to match the boards and edges, giving this volume a rich and dignified shelf presence.

This book is one-of-a-kind in its material and craftsmanship. It is ready to ship today to adorn your office library, and is offered on a first come, first served basis. Don't wait or it may be gone. You'll kick yourself if you hesitate and somebody else snatches it away.
