About The Book

From the original Texas bank, the Commercial & Agricultural Bank chartered in Mexican Texas, through multiple prohibitions on state banks and the dawn of national banks & the Federal Reserve system - this fact-packed book takes you on a tour of banking in Texas from 1835 through 1929.

Written during the lead-up to the Great Depression and originally published by the Ft. Worth National Bank in 1930, this history of banking in Texas is filled with facts not found elsewhere. It has been out of print for over 75 years and we're pleased to bring it back. Dust jacket features a rare 1830s banknote from the only bank ever chartered in the Republic of Texas.
